As mpack mentioned, about the only thing that would truly tax a graphic system on a fairly new PC are games and 3D modeling programs such as Maya.

It's quite easy to reach a high number of polygons if you have a lot of curved shapes, all of which will be approximated by small polygons. If you don't have many cylinders and sausage shapes etc then you may be fine. Or natural shapes too of course.

Note that SketchUp uses shading to make approximated curved shapes look smoother. You can see the real faceted shape if you export, e.g. to STL or OBJ format.

As a novice Sketch-up user, I'll be using it primarily to do construction drawings for furniture I build. From what I've learned here, I doubt that I will be taxing it's graphics abilities using 2d only.
I really appreciate all the great comments. I've learned a lot from them.
