Windows 10 - Can Not Deselect Direct3D Support in GA

Post by claytoncarney »

Successfully installed Windows 10 Technical Preview in a VM. However, when I attempt to install Guest Additions 4.3.20, I can not deselect Direct3D Support in the 'Choose Components' dialog. I have never installed Direct3D on my other Windows VMs. After installing GA with Direct3D on Windows 10, I experience numerous rendering issues (e.g., blacked out areas) which do not occur when GA is not installed.

As I recalled, on other VMs, Direct3D is not selected by default during the install. With Windows 10, it is selected and can not be deselected (greyed out).

Any suggestions?

That is normal across all platforms. It started with the Windows 8.1 template and I just assumed it was necessary. It installs the WDDM driver.

OK, if I install GA with Direct3D Support, I get this with 3D Acceleration turned on (note blacked out areas):

However, with 3D Acceleration turned off, I get this (no blacked out areas):

However, with 3D Acceleration turned off, I can not resize the VM display via the controlvm setvideomodehint command. I run all my other VMs with 3D Acceleration turned on and they work fine (including resizing).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Seems to be more wrong with yours than just the blacked out borders. Here is mine. I changed the wallpaper.

first thing to try is to enable 2D and increase the VRAM to 128.

All suggestions have been implemented. No change in rendering errors. This was build 9841. Decided to move on to Build 9926, which brings different issues and a new topic. Thanks to all for their assistance!
