Hello - wondering if I could get some assistance. I've searched a bit around the forum and have found a few solutions to what I'm trying to do, but I can't seem to make it work, and could use some hand holding...lol

What I need to know, is what someone else needs to know to help answer some questions.

What and where do I look for version information?

Yep - Seen that. Tried that. Says syntax is wrong. There are spaces in the .vdi file name. I try using the whack to account for the space (folder/folder/folder/name\ of\ file.vdi) and it errors out.

I would be willing to pay someone $50 via paypal to do this for me. I do not know terminal well enough to do this reliably, and navigating a mac environment makes me crazy :/

you need to put quotes around the path.

ex. VBoxManage modifyhd "/Applications/VMs/Debian\ 7.8/Debian\ 7.8.vdi" --resize 300000

my vms are in a different location than normal.

The error I get

that can't be the path to the vm's .vdi file.

do this with the terminal open, type in VBoxManage modifyhd

find the .vdi file you are trying to resize and drag it into the terminal

put quotes around the path

type in the rest of the command

--resize 300000

return.

What version of VirtualBox is this? How old is the VM? My attention is drawn by the fact you are trying this on a VDI file stored in a "HardDisks" folder, a folder structure which VirtualBox hasn't used for several years. And when that folder was used, the "modifyhd --resize" command didn't exist.

My apologizes. It didn't occur to me someone would be using a version that old. Assuming mpack is correct and you have an old version of VirtualBox, the path may very well have been correct but you would need to update VirtualBox.

Well, I was thinking something else. The error is "file not found", so I suspected the OP might be following some howto blog from the Jurassic era.

I can't remember that far back.

first run the VirtualBox_Uninstall.tool. Then download 4.3.20 with its extension pack from here: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Uninstalling and installing on a Mac - especially in a production environment- is probably a terrible idea for me to do...lol

That being said - can I get some really kindergarden basic instructions for how to do this? I have never installed anything before on a mac. I can't even navigate to the directory using finder, because I think the "library" folder is hidden. I don't know how to even make something unhidden. I can navigate to the location using terminal, but thats it...

Yes, you can find 100s of thousands of links by doing a simple Google search on how to do something on your Mac. You could try by typing "How do I… OSX" in Google search.

This is not really a "How do I use my computer forum."

p.s. If you are near an Apple store they hold classes for free if I remember correctly if you need them.

Ultimately my goal was to find someone on this forum that I could PAY to do what I'm trying to do. As much as I'd like to go down the rabbit hole with Google, that was exactly what I was trying to avoid.
