I am using VirtualBox 4.3.20, my host is Windows 7 64bit, my guest is a Windows Server 2003 32bit made using disk2vhd. I have not installed Guest Additions on the guest because there is an error message during login that I can't deal with because I don;t have mouse support. How can I get mouse and keyboard of guest VM?

I can get other guest VMs (Ubuntu) to recognize mouse and keyboard

You probably would have needed to uninstall the hardware specific mouse and keyboard drivers on the original system before converting it.

... and if your host has USB keyboard and mouse then make sure the guest isn't grabbing ownership of them (i.e. no filter in VM settings | USB that might grab them).

If install a USB keyboard and mouse on my server then run disk2vhd and it should work. Is this correct?

No, that is not what I said. The last few words of my previous post tell you what to do. In fact the second word of my previous post is quite critical too.

My question was addressed towards martin's response.

My host does have USB keyboard and mouse and there are no filters setup.

My two cents. Since you have other guests with a working keyboard and mouse it seems logical it's only the W2003 vm.

Either there were drivers installed on the original machine that are causing a problem, the image isn't correct, or the original machine was a Dell.

It is a Dell Server. Why does being a dell cause problems?

I mentioned Dell because their Windows OEM install disks are a problem when used to try and create a guest or install Windows on non-Dell hardware. I thought their servers might have the same issues.
