You don't need to reinstall it. aptitude safe-upgrade does the job. You can check the /etc/debian_version file
To prevent the VM crash at shutdown/save state, you must never trigger a screenshot (for example, by pausing the VM), while you are logged in and you are viewing the Gnome 3 UI.

Okey! I'll try that.mhanor wrote:You don't need to reinstall it. aptitude safe-upgrade does the job. You can check the /etc/debian_version file

Hmmm.. What actually is there inside that debian_version file?
And I have been using APT-GET instead of APTITUDE. So do I just run SUDO APTITUDE SAFE-UPGRADE on the Terminal window?
Thank You for the replies and your help!

I have no idea why you both are having Saved State issues. I already had Debian Jessie installed and just installed Debian 7.8 (Wheezy) with Gnome 3 and have no problem Saving State/ Shutting down with 3D enabled without using the terminal. But I will leave you both to your own devices.

Please stay on topic. We support VirtualBox and not how to use Linux. They have their own forums with dedicated individuals to answer your questions.
Re: VBox 4.3.20 crashes on SAVE STATE (3D enabled)
I have the same issue with guest Mint 17.1 Cinnamon x64 in VBox v4.3.26.
Vbox will crash if 3d acceleration is enabled, and I try to close->save state.
Interestingly enough, I have a Fedora 21 x86 also running with 3d acceleration, and it does not crash when I save state.
