Server 2012 with Windows 8 Client - Default Gateway

Post by Gary31 »

Hi all,

This is my first post here, from what I've seen so far there seems to be a lot of very useful information.

I am relatively new to VirtualBox but I have set up an internal network in VirtualBox with Server 2012 and a couple of Windows 7/ 8 Clients. My server is running DHCP and DNS with no problems. However, now that I've got the network working, I'd like to add internet access.

I would like to add internet access to the server and have the clients use this as a default gateway.

I am aware that you can add multiple network adapters to the VMs, I have done with the Server and I'm able to get internet access on the server. My question is, is getting the clients to use the server's internet connection a Windows issue or is there something I need to do to the VirtualBox settings?

Thanks in advance.

It would be a Windows issue at this point. Setup RRAS.

Thanks for the very quick reply.

Just to clarify, I have one network adapter using NAT and one as the internal network.

I have assigned the IP to the internal adapter for it to work to this point, do I leave the 2nd adapter's IP address as default or would this need changing? Currently it's getting default settings, presumably it's getting addresses from the Host machine.

Thanks,
Gary

I fully understood. Setup RRAS to provide the network to the clients and they will work fine.
RRAS is a function of Windows networking and is separate of VirtualBox.
