Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
Hi,
I'm new to vbox and have a snowleopard 10.6 vm running on my yosemite host.
I installed dropbox in the snowleopard vm, but it won't let me sign in. Any ideas why?

You have the wrong username/password. No, seriously, why do you believe that this is a VirtualBox issue?

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
Because I can sign into it outside of virtualbox. I also signed out of dropbox on my host OS and tried it, in case there was some conflict with being logged in twice via my IP address, if that's any kind of possibility.

OK, here are a couple of thoughts:
- What's your keyboard layout? English host/English guest?
- Try to write your username/password in TextEdit in the client making sure that it is correct. Then Copy-Paste it from the TextEdit to the login dialog of Dropbox, instead of typing it. If this fixes it, let me know.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
Thanks for the suggestion but alas, no. Didn't work. Pasting into the username/password boxes is not an option. I don't think the keyboard is the issue as I can see I'm typing the correct things into the boxes... I click the "sign in" button and nothing happens.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
What does your network configuration for the VM looks like? Are you using NAT? Are you logged in at the same time from the host? "Nothing happens": Is that a refresh issue? What's your Dropbox client version? I will try later today at the office with my partner's Dropbox account (I don't have one myself).

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
I can connect to the internet OK via the VM. I am using NAT. As I mentioned above, I quit dropbox from my host and then retried inside vbox... still couldn't sign in. Apologies if this all sounds like nonsense.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
As I said, I do not believe that this is a VirtualBox issue. Guest VM: 10.6.8. Network configuration: NAT. Dropbox client: 1.0, 2014.12.17. Logged in both via Safari and the Dropbox client. Client can be seen running successfully on the toolbar. You can also notice that my "local" Dropbox folder has synced with the contents on the cloud.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
FWIW, I installed Dropbox in one of my Linux guests. It wouldn't accept my password although it did with the Dropbox Client and in a browser on my host. I had to reset the password to get things working. I have no idea why.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
I haven't mentioned it before, but since 4.3.20, all of my clients are reacting funny to the keyboard input. Misspelled passwords, erroneous order of keyboard keys entered, delays. It hasn't bothered me enough to raise a flag, but I definitely have to type my passwords slower with a max speed of up to 2 chars/sec. Otherwise, I see weird behavior. Any chance that there is something like that going on? That's why I asked dibasic to type the user/pass in TextEdit and then copy-paste it.loukingjr wrote:...Linux guests. Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
hmmm. same here, although it doesn't happen often I have noticed wrong keys, doubled keys being typed in guests. I thought it was me.
Perhaps something is up with 4.3.20.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
OK, now that I have confirmation (including the double-characters), I'll raise the flag in a new thread, although this might be the solution to this one as well. Just to make sure; could you and dibasic try with a slower than normal keyboard typing rate? Making sure that each key-press corresponds to one and one only asterisk in the dialog box?

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
If I typed any slower VirtualBox 7.5.18 will be out.
I'll see what I can do.

Re: Can't sign into Dropbox in snow leopard VM
I think in my case logging into Dropbox was actually my fault. (not admitting why). As far as the keys issue, it seems it varies by guest. I will keep an eye on it.
I have noticed in the past that some timing issues have cropped up, such as a guest starting without the VB screen module loading once in awhile but a restart of the guest fixes it. Once in awhile my Windows 7 guest refuses to connect to the network, but a restart fixes that as well.
As far as the OP's problem, not sure what's up with that. Maybe the keyboard repeat delay or rate is set too high on the Mac?
