Make sure you do not have any USB filters defined in the VM settings.

If you need to continue this conversation then provide a VM log file: right click VM in GUI, select "Show Log", save "VBox.log" (only) to a file, zip file and attach here. Make sure the VM is shut down before you collect the log of the session.

I'm curious as to why the device manager says "LenovaX301S_3"
OSX, Linux and Windows Hosts & Guests
There are three groups of people. Those that can count and those that can't.

RIght, well spotted.

So I take it this is not a fresh install of Win7, it's an image created by Disk2VHD or similar. At least I hope that's the case, and that it wasn't created by that VMWare Converter thing.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

That is correct. I've done the conversion with the help of VMware vCenter convetering from P2V.

When I am inside the machine, everything works as it should except the keyboard. Do you think that the conversion is the reason that the keyboard does not work?

I have no USB filters enabled.

Well, pointing out the obvious: VirtualBox is not VMWare. So, I have no idea if VMWare converter will do the job. If it installs the VMWare Guest tools for keyboard and mouse integration then that certainly isn't what's needed.

I would have done the P2V conversion using Disk2VHD, which is a generic Windows disk imaging tool. However I dislike the VHD format itself, so I would convert it to VDI before use.

Does the keyboard work if you boot the guest in safe mode?

VMware vCenter convetering from P2V is one way to create a VSH. I will try Disk2vhd always fun to try something new. We shall see if the conversion maybe the reason that the keyboard does not work. I will also try to boot in safe mode and see if the keyboard works then. Will be back with info when I'm done with the tests.

Keyboard not working even though I ran in safe mode.

I have now made a new VM with the help of Disk2VHD and keyboard now works in the new VM. Guess it was something corrupt with the first conversion with the help VMware vCenter convetering.

Thanks for all the suggestions on what could be wrong.

I doubt it. It was simply the wrong tool for the job. If you had loaded the VM in VMWare as the tool intended then I've no doubt it would have worked fine.
