Re: I can't install virtualbox
Make sure you use "Run as administrator" when you run the installer.
Also read this ticket to see if you have this buggy Windows Update installed: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13677.

Re: I can't install virtualbox
Google for how to enable the Windows Installer (MSI) logging feature. That's the only way you'll find out what the problem is. It's going to be something utterly peripheral, such as a corrupted registry or not having enough disk space - or it's going to be a permissions problem, causing by not running the installer with admin rights, and/or having "Driver Signature Enforcement" set to it's most aggressive level, or by using security/AV software that has a similar effect.
Re: I can't install virtualbox
why can't you explain, everywhere i go in help forums they dont do explaining they make it look like the person that needs help is an expert at computers, well i can tell you that i am not one of them.
youre like go here then here you got a problem here and then its over there, you make it sound simple to yourself but what about the noobs who need help like me.
so lets be honest if you're truly going to help me out then do so, but if not clearly state that you do not want to help me out so i can know that i wont be getting any help.

slimex,
The reality is your problem is unusual. It is not always easy to diagnose someone's problem and users do have to take some initiative. This is a user help forum. It is not a fix it for me forum. It takes time to figure out what may be wrong.

Re: I can't install virtualbox
well we can at least go through the steps on diagnosing my problem instead of saying go to this website or search google for this and that.
I've already searched google, but to know that google doesnt own virtualbox or even their devs why should i go GOOGLING them when "the virtualbox devs already created a support forum why, just why?"

Re: I can't install virtualbox
The issue you are having is with the Windows installer ( msi ) which places this as a Windows issue. There is not much that we can do about it since you are the one that has the issue except to point you to the area you need to investigate. As Don said you can provide a log from the installer program and maybe we can see what the issue might be but it is impossible for VirtualBox to diagnose the issue you might have with the Windows installer. He also pointed out common causes that you can investigate. Did you try any of them?

Re: I can't install virtualbox
Just so you understand, this is not a support forum. No one here gets paid or works for Oracle. It's a forum consisting of end users like yourself who try and help each other when they can. Once in awhile a developer may stop by but of course they are busy trying to improve VirtualBox.
Everyone here including the Mods do their best to help.

you see this is exactly what i mean, first you say i am having an issue with the windows installer which i kinda dont understand.Perryg wrote:The issue you are having is with the Windows installer ( msi ) which places this as a Windows issue. And you also say "he also pointed out common causes that you can investigate" and when did a person named don post something on my post?? And what can i try. *i might switch over to vmware workstation?*

Re: I can't install virtualbox
Yeah I think you should switch. It may be a lot easier for you to understand.

so you actually want me to switch instead of helping me out!!Perryg wrote:Yeah I think you should switch. It may be a lot easier for you to understand.

Re: I can't install virtualbox
I have already explained there is no one that can help you with an issue you are having on your Windows host. Nothing more needs to be said. I suggest you try the other virtualizer and see if it works as I don't think it uses the Windows installer.

Re: I can't install virtualbox
As you were told above, nobody here works for Oracle, we are all users. It makes no difference to us whether you switch or not. Actually not quite true: if you switch then you won't be here complaining about how bad the free support is, so I guess it would make a small difference.slimex wrote:so you actually want me to switch instead of helping me out!!
