Shutting Down Stock Ubuntu VM Crashes VirtualBox

Post by Zian »

I created a new Ubuntu VM, installed the guest additions, and rebooted successfully. Sometimes though, after I shutdown the VM inside Ubuntu, I get the following error message:

---------------------------
VirtualBox.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at 0x535f6e6f referenced memory at 0x535f6e6f. The memory could not be written.

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
---------------------------
OK Cancel
---------------------------

After I click OK, VirtualBox.exe and its child windows close.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

VirtualBox Installation Details:
- Version 4.3.20 r96997

Please see Minimum information needed for assistance. The most interesting part is attaching the zipped VBox.log of your guest.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I would up the display RAM to something more reasonable, say 64MB. You must be getting (and ignoring) a warning right now about the small 16MB figure you're currently using.

You are probably using an AMD GPU and your VM has 3D acceleration enabled. Read here
