virtualbox.org

When I try launching VirtualBox nothing happens. The process starts running on Task Manager, but nothing shows up. I've tried reinstalling, installing different versions, but nothing seems to work.

Where did you download VirtualBox from?

Are you talking about launching the manager/GUI? Or launching a VM?

If you have the official installer then make sure you install for the correct user (i.e. not the "Admin" account), but do use "Run as administrator" when running the installer.

Rebooting your host might also be a good idea.

The VBox service log might also be useful: i.e. browse to the <userdocs>\.VirtualBox folder, zip up the VBoxSVC.log file, and attach the zip here.

Tip: don't thrash around "I tried installing different versions" doesn't tell me much, nor does it inspire much confidence. Do one thing, observe carefully what the results are. Don't try anything else unless you have know why you are doing so. Report any error messages accurately.

I downloaded VirtualBox from the download page, the latest one on Windows host.

I'm talking about launching the Manager/GUI.

I tried running the installer as an administrator, for the correct account, but the issue was still here.

Not your fault, but I'm afraid that the service log has told me nothing. It shows VBoxSVC starting up, then nothing.

I assume that something other application or service is conflicting with VirtualBox, so all you can do at this point is to try shutting down other applications - and I'm thinking about the Hyper-v service, anti-virus, and anything not a standard part of Win8 - to see if you can pinpoint the culprit.
