How to access harddisk from virtual box

Post by pnperl »

Using Virtual box v4.3 on Windows 8.1 x64.
I am running windows XP SP3 x86 from virtual box but I cannot access my local hard disk drives.
Any solution?

VirtualBox is not from VMWare. :D

Your XP guest is a separate PC. It can't use the same hard disk as your host PC. However you can easily create a shared folder once you install the Guest Additions. See the Guest Additions chapter in the user manual, and the Shared Folders part of the VM settings.

You do not need to download the Guest Additions ISO. It is already there as part of VirtualBox - just select it from the "Devices" menu, or press Host-D.

Don't mix up Guest Additions with the Extension Pack. You do need to download the Ext Pack (if you are going to use it) but it is quite a different thing from GAs.
