I rebooted my machine and now when I right click the little USB icon on the bottom of the window I see the USB drives, but they're all grayed out. I can't select them.

are they USB 3.0 drives? VirtualBox doesn't support USB 3.0 yet. If so, you would have to plug them into a USB 2.0 port or create shared folders to point to them.

Both of the thumb drives that I was trying to get virtual box to see were USB 3.0. I unplugged those two drives and plugged in my USB 2.0 thumb drive. For some reason Virtual Box wouldn't recognize that I unplugged my other two drives so had to restart the program for it to update itself. Even though I was able to get virtual box to see my USB 2.0 thumb drive the option to select it was still grayed out.

I was able to figure out the solution to he problem. It was a permissions issue. I had to give myself rights to the root.

If your running linux Mint you would go into the control center of linux mint and go to Users and Groups. Then click on Manage Groups and once in there give yourself access to the root group and vboxusers group. Restart your computer and you should be good to go. You can also add yourself in the terminal using the the commands "sudo adduser yourusername vboxusers" and "sudo adduser yourusername root".

You're welcome but I don't think there is any reason to add your username to 'root'. You do have to have an 'admin' account but on my Linux box which is running Ubuntu 14.10, I can mount USB 2.0 devices in guests without being a member of 'root'. Since Mint is basically Ubuntu I don't see why it would be different.
