Choppy USB audio - Linux host/win guest

Hello,
I have tried two different USB soundcards/headsets, and both have choppy USB audio on win guest, linux host.
fedora 21 host, win 8.1 guest.
The regular passthrough audio works fine(which, incidentally, is also a USB audio card, but I don't go to devices/usb audio to activate it).
I can plug a headset into the usb soundcard that is being used as passthrough, and it works fine(regular 1/8 inch plugs). The problem is when I go to devices/usb devices, and choose a usb headset/soundcard there, then I get the choppiness.
Any ideas?
I use pulseaudio.

There is no such thing as a "passthrough audio", the guest uses whatever the host provides (USB or not). If you want to access the USB soundcard directly, that's a different issue. USB devices usually have hardware timing requirements that cannot be met easily in a virtualized environment. Not that much you can do at the moment.

I probably used the wrong terminology, but what I was saying is that my default soundcard in Linux host is USB, and that works fine in vbox win 8.1 guest.
However devices/usb devices usb soundcards have that choppiness/lag. This was not the case a few years ago when I was using the same usb card/stick.
Any ideas?

Your question was:

My answer was (and still remains):

And by the way,
cross-posting is not a good idea...

If it fits in both forums, which one are you supposed to use?
I appreciate your reply, but it didn't really address the fact that I was able to do this without an issue in the past.

If it happens in multiple guests, then you post it to the host's specific forum. If it happens only in one kind of a guest you post it to the guest's specific forum.

Could you define "past"? Past guest? Past host? Past VirtualBox? Also, could you revert to said past and make sure that it works?

Thanks for the reply. I last used it on different versions of host a few years ago.
Older virtualbox, obviously.
That all being said, I ended up just not direct connecting and telling pulseaudio in the host to have virtualbox use the usb soundcard, and it works.
Thanks
