I'm pretty sure that wasn't it. A virtual disk doesn't need VT-x. In any case that's from Daemon tools right? - which quite a few other people also use without problems. And in any case it would have to be software you changed or installed since VirtualBox last worked.
IMHO, the VirtualBox reinstall might have made more difference, especially if at some point you rebooted your PC.
