I was having difficulty with a Windows 7 64 bit operating system, so I decided to remove it and simply reload it.

When attempting to reload the software I tried to use the name "Windows 7" again, but was presented with this:

"Cannot create the machine folder Windows 7 in the parent folder /Users/MY NAME/VirtualBox VMs.
This folder already exists and possibly belongs to another machine."

So I uninstalled VirtualBox and reinstalled it, thinking this would eliminate any residual files keeping me from cleaning the slate.

This has not happened, the newly installed VirtualBox still presents me with the above message.

How can I remove previous machine folders? Even though I told VirtualBox to delete all files associated with the 1st Windows 7 OS, is it still taking up room on my hard drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just delete the /Users/MY NAME/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 7 folder manually.

My apologies as I am not the most computer literate with my newly acquired Apple products and as I grew up with PCs.

I have this same problem, BUT... After installing 5.1.28 VirtualBox wouldn't open my virtual machine last used under 5.1.26 so I blew away the .vbox files and tried to re-add it but I get that message. That trick had worked for me in the past. I DONT want to blow away the .vdi file, I just want to reconnect to it.

I can't import it or add it either. The ONLY one of my Virtual Machines that still works with 5.1.28 is my FreeDOS. All the rest are now broken.

1. Move the VDI somewhere else, your Desktop would be an quick and dirty option.
2. Delete the VM folder.
3. Recreate the VM with as close details as you remember. Mainly the same name.
4. When asked for the hard disk option, move the VM to its old folder (which just got recreated in the previous step).
5. Select "Use an existing virtual hard disk".
6. Select your existing VDI.

PS. It would be best if you didn't revive a 3 year old thread, you could have easily opened a new one.
