1. Computer is MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013
2. Running OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 (recently upgraded)
3.VirtualBox Version 4.3.20 r96996 with Guest Guest installed
4. Guest OS is Windows 7 64 bit

I have an external DVD drive. In the past, running OSX Maverics and previous versions of VirtualBox, I have had no problems using the external DVD drive from within the Windows 7 guest OS in VirtualBox.

Now, however, there is a problem - I can't get the external DVD drive to be seen in the Windows OS.

Any suggestions?

An external DVD (assuming USB connection here) would be seen from a guest (Win7) only if you used a USB filter on your host. Is that how you were using the DVD from your guest? That's the only way I can think of (1).

But this couldn't have worked in the first place because your MacBookPro has only USB3 ports, which VirtualBox doesn't support. Unless, either your extDVD is a USB2 device or it is routed through a USB2 hub (extDVD -> USB2_hub -> MBP).

Also, you mention that "in the past it worked". Can you be a bit more thick on the details? Finally, is it the same DVD that used to work and now it doesn't?

Please describe your problem in more detail. "It used to work and now it doesn't" I'm afraid can't help us pinpoint the problem...

(1) You could have used Shared Folders, but that would appear to the guest as a folder, not a DVD. Different premises; different discussion.
