ipod not recognized by Windows 7 64 bit guest

I have an ipod nano touch (think it is 6th gen, small square one). I reseted the device to factory defaults on my parents macbook and it is showing up as a thumbdrive in ubuntu 14.04 LTS (host). But when i start windows 7 64 bit in VB a note shows up saying something like "Windows cannot recognize the USB-device....". I've tried a couple of suggested solutions I found on google but none worked. I have usb 2.0 enabled and the ipod is "grabbed" by the vitual machine when booting. I also tried deleting an entry in regedit (upperfilters) by mistake (i then realised it was for a windows host not a windows guest). Rhythmbox and banshee will show the device in the sidebar but I cant drag and drop tracks or playlists. I don't know what to try next.
Any suggestions?
And for the record, do you know of a small non-apple mp3 player preferably with a clip to play music when I'm out jogging?
