We are currently attempting to run a VirtualBox of Windows 8.1 on a Windows XP host (we are working on migration). The problem that is coming up is a website that uses a USB scanner, and it activates the peripheral via ActiveX, there is no popup to install an extension, its done by a software package from the company. The scanner works on the guest VM without a problem, and it tests fine using their diagnostics.
Is ActiveX supported over the USB passthrough? The device ID for the USB filter looks fine.

Re: ActiveX USB device on a Win8 guest VM
ActiveX is software, part of Windows - it is not relevant at the hardware level where VirtualBox works. You probably just need to install device drivers for the scanner in your Win8.1 guest OS.
