Hello ladies and gentlemen.

Sadly compacting isn't working anymore AGAIN and STILL (now for years) requires year 2000 Commandline.

Is it really so difficult to get this very important feature working (it worked already and add a GUI for it ?
Its just a graphical button some linking ... the Compacting itself was already working ?

if you are really working with a VM install Software on it uninstall ... the size of the machine increases and increases after half a year compacting usually reduces the VM size up to 75%.
So this feature is really important. The other big VM Company recognized that and the feature is working absulutely perfect in theit program.

Since this is an open source project, and you have strong feelings about said feature, you are more than welcomed to provide the necessary changes to the source code.

In fact, yes, it is hard to make a "compact" feature that performs well and is novice-proof, and works with all guest filesystems. But, as Socrates said, if you have good ideas in this area then a code contribution will no doubt be welcome. Just make sure that you aren't wearing Windows blinkers when you do it. And bear in mind that novice users will not manage disk space well (they are quite likely to be short of it), and they may also have made the dangerous decision to use snapshots - which renders compaction pretty much impossible.
