Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
I am running Centos 6.5 on my Win 7 PC.
Today, I went to "settings" to add a 2nd harddrive, after adding the 2nd one, the 1st harddrive disappeared. All my work is lost.
I like know if there is a way to put it back? Is this a bug from VirualBox?
Thanks.

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.
Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Hi Perryg;
Thanks for the quick reply.
Do you want me to run this command from my win 7 command window?
I tried, "not recognized as as internal.... command"

Yes. Read the last line closely.
Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
BTW, from the virtualbox, "file"->"virtual media manager", I still see my "1st-harddrive.vdi" listed under "hard drives".

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
If you look in C:\Users\kw\VirtualBox VMs\New group\my-centos65\ do you see any *.vdi files?
According to this you do not have any hard drives mounted to the guest. It also shows a "New group" which is unusual for a single guest install.
How long have you been using this guest and did you ever really install it or run from live boot?

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
1. I do see:
C:\Users\kw\VirtualBox VMs\New group\my-centos65\my-centos65.vdi files
2. The VBoxGuestAdditions.iso was used to get Linux full screen in the VirtualBox.
3. I have used VBoxGuestAdditions.iso for several month now. And did run it from after Linux is booted.
Thanks.

More info about my box.
Before adding the 2nd hard drive. I did see "VBoxGuestAdditions.iso" and "my-centos65 hard drive".

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
The guest additions are the only thing that is mounted in your guest and since it is not bootable then you can see why you are getting the error you are seeing.
I would open the guest settings and add the drive back like it should be. Then the guest should boot.
You can post an image of the settings area where it shows drives and also it would help to have a screen shot of the media manager showing your drives.

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
Open the storage section so I can see what it says in the guest settings.

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
Tell me what you see. I see only the guest additions and not hard drives.
Add them back and it will work.

Re: Lost harddirve after adding 2nd harddrive
Could you let me know how to "add" it back?
