Windows guest Hangs on 10.10.1 host
Windows guest Hangs on 10.10.1 host
ever since i have upgraded from mavericks to 10.10 (MBP - EARLY 2014) my host running Win8.1 hangs on startup and then in-between also.
currently i am using VB-4.3.20 with the update guest.
when ever i start my Guest it lets me login and when the startup screen comes for win 8.1 it hangs .
some times if i disconnect from company network and use Public WIFI it doesnt hangs ,but some times it does . the same behavior occurs if i don't chose non in the network. so ever time it hangs i need to try different combination to make it run
i have tried using a new ISO but the same issue ,the guest hangs .
is this a issue with 10.10 only as on 10.9 it works fine or something that needs to be done at Virtual box .

Please read the following: Minimum information needed for assistance. If possible, attach two logs; 1) you start and shutdown your guest and no hanging occurs and 2) one that your guest hangs. Zip them first please.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Re: Windows guest Hangs on 10.10.1 host
one problem is you have 8 cores assigned to the guest when your host only has 4. Reduce the cores to 2.

tried reducing the core to 2 but didn't work .
i have another mac running i7 10.9 and running 8.1 VM with 8 core but it has no issues .
May be the issue is not related to it .
but your help is appreciated

You're welcome although I have no idea how you can run 8 cores on a guest and not have problems. I have several Macs with 4 core i7s. They have 4 physical cores and 8 threads. If I assigned all the cores to a guest I don't know what my hosts would use.

Re: Windows guest Hangs on 10.10.1 host
Hello,
I just wanted to say I had a similar issue with rMBP 13 (Mid 2014) and Windows 7 64 bits as Guest, a short time after booting Windows would hang.
After much fiddling, tried disabling the network and it didn't hang anymore.
Then I changed the network settings from NAT to Bridged Adapter, re-enabled the network and it doesn't hang anymore.
Just my .02€ if anyone encounters the same issue. The Windows partition is a raw-vmdk from Bootcamp.
