The driver would have been installed when you installed the guest additions.
What concerns me is the lack of information about the GPU in the log files and now you have issues in the Xorg log. I am going with the idea of not having accelerated capabilities in the GPU. As Lou said this can be a real issue if the host does not switch from low power video to accelerated video. Not sure about Mac, but Linux and even Windows allows this to be configured manually.

I can uninstall the guest additions if necessary, and install any drivers that may be needed. I just perplexed as to why it worked once and then stopped after reboot?
I have other builds with Ubuntu 14.04 that work on this machine just fine. I'm thinking its something on the guest side that is creating an issue with the x display.

Are you saying you have other Ubuntu 14.04 guests running in VirtualBox that are fine? Don't you think that would have been something to mention before now?UMDinfo wrote: I have other builds with Ubuntu 14.04 that work on this machine just fine. Sorry. Yes I have another Vbox with built with the same .iso and it works. I have not done any updates to that guest. I had to update the broken guest due to the programs I need to run on that system.

Re: Black Screen after login Ubuntu guest on OS 10.10.1
I hope someone figures out why this would have fixed anything seeing guests don't use the nVidia drivers. Just to be sure I purged all nVidia drivers from my Ubuntu 14.04 guest and as expected it still works.
