I'm seeing a lot of suspending and resuming going on. I'd like to see what happens if the guest is fully shut down (not suspended) and then restarted.
Also, I'm not convinced that the correct version of the GAs has been installed. Like Lou I am not convinced that they've been installed. How exactly did you install them? In particular I want to know if you used the normal "Insert Guest Additions CD..." menu item, or whether you made the mistake of explicitly mounting an obsolete GAs ISO.

Re: GeoSuite AllWorks DirectX problems
I also had to install the NET Framework 2.0, in fact the setup applications installs that for you if it is not found (as was my case). The system should have all the subsequent updates installed through MS Update.loukingjr wrote:I'm at a loss. The only thing I had to do was when I first installed GeoSuite I had to install NetFramework 2.0 in XP. I also don't understand why your vbox.log is mising so many guest additions lines. Maybe someone else does.
As far as your project being the problem in VB, unless you can directly call DirectX in the project I'm not sure why that would be the case. But I don't know the program.
How big is your project compressed? if it's under 128k you could attach it.
I can't put my SegY file as it is pretty darn big (100 MBytes) and contains data I am not sure I can make public.
Excuse me, I have not understood. It is correct that you would like me tompack wrote:I'm seeing a lot of suspending and resuming going on. I'd like to see what happens if the guest is fully shut down (not suspended) and then restarted.
- turn the machine off
reinstall the GA in safe mode
shutdown
show you the log file?
I inserted the ISO through the menu item, I have checked it is correct. The VirtualBox tray icon appears and shows 4.3.20 as version number, I use Shared Folders and guest auto-resize without problems. Also, I'm not convinced that the correct version of the GAs has been installed. It probably doesn't mean anything but I did notice among other things that are different in your log than mine. One is this:

Re: GeoSuite AllWorks DirectX problems
Here is what a randomly selected XP VM of mine says about the guest additions (in the log).
Here is what your log file says about the GAs :-mpack's XP VM wrote: 00:00:10.002181 Guest Additions information report: Version 4.3.6 r91406 '4.3.6'

00:00:10.002340 Guest Additions capability report: (0x0 -> 0x0) seamless: no, hostWindowMapping: no, graphics: no
You can see that your log file is rather less enthusiastic on this subject than mine. This leads me to believe that your GAs are not properly installed. Since I see that you use suspend/resume a lot, I'm guessing that you possibly didn't reset the VM as the GAs installer told you. I suggest that you do that now, and report back. I don't need to see any further logs unless the problem remains.gsdefenders's XP VM wrote: 00:37:10.979741 Guest Additions capability report: (0x5 -> 0x0) seamless: no, hostWindowMapping: no, graphics: no

Re: GeoSuite AllWorks DirectX problems
I don't know if your project would run on my guest and your project is too big for me to find out.
I do have both Fusion and VirtualBox installed and they do handle graphics differently. Just one example, with Linux Mint 17.1 Mate, in VB the "copy to texture" setting for Compiz has to be set for Compiz to work, In Fusion it doesn't. They may very well handle DirectX differently as well.
I suppose if nothing else you could "bite the bullet" and purchase Fusion since as you said your project works in it.

Re: GeoSuite AllWorks DirectX problems
speaking of the logs, both mpack's and my logs have this line:
yours doesn't.
i.e. reports the guest additions version.00:00:07.019684 Guest Additions information report: Version 4.3.21 r97176 '4.3.21'
yours doesn't.

Re: GeoSuite AllWorks DirectX problems
I may end up doing just that. I wished to use VirtualBox as it is my desktop virtualization platform of choice and I try to support it, even running in my spare time a fairly big site to host virtual machines (I won't be advertising it in this forum as I am against this kind of spam myself) but I need to have that application running for my daily job.loukingjr wrote:I don't know if your project would run on my guest and your project is too big for me to find out.

I have done what mpack requested. The new log seem to sport the aforementioned line. No changes.loukingjr wrote:speaking of the logs, both mpack's and my logs have this line:i.e. reports the guest additions version.00:00:07.019684 Guest Additions information report: Version 4.3.21 r97176 '4.3.21'

Re: GeoSuite AllWorks DirectX problems
I think that this thread can be closed without solution. I have tried opening other SegY files publicly available on the Internet and they work OK, so it is definitely a fringe problem with my data and nothing can be reasonably done. I have also tried updating the WineD3D libraries manually to the latest version (1.4.1) but nothing changes.
Thank you everybody for your patience.
