it did not matter which vm (xp, vist, Win7, 8.1) none can be started regardless of saved state: stopped, saved. save state discarded.
Had to use windows System rollback to get VM guests working again with v 4.3.12
Platform: w8.1 on core 2 quad, 8GB Ram,450GB boot drive with 96 GB free, 1TB data drive,1 TB drive for VMs. hardware assist turned on for virtualbox
