I am running VB 4.3.20r96996 on MacOS X 10.10 (Yosemite) with a Win8.1 64bit guest. I have the exact symptoms in this bug from 14 months ago: 12246 (can't link as I am a new user)
If I am running Chrome on the host (Version 39.0.2171.71 (64-bit)...for the record), the entire host OS freezes for long periods of time with short, intermittent, bursts of normal operations. If I quit Chrome, everything returns to normal, host and guests run fine (actually I am quite impressed with the performance).
I have the logs but there isn't anything interesting in them.
I saw from other posts to disable VT-x, but I can not do that with a 64bit guest. That advice was for an old version of VB anyway.
Any thoughts?

Re: Chrome Freezes
The problem with the Chrome browser running in OSX has nothing to do with VirtualBox. As a matter of fact, if you are using a Magic Mouse, Chrome will crash.

fwiw, for your Mac to freeze for a bit sounds like you are over extending the memory or the number of cores you have set for the Windows guest. I'm running a Windows 8.1 guest, watching videos in the current Chrome as I type in Firefox 34 and nothing is slowing down.
You should attach the vbox.log for your Windows guest.

RAM! That was it. Ran 2GB, dropped it to 512MB, and bam, works like a charm. Thanks!

Welcome but 512MB isn't very much for a Windows 8.1 64bit guest.Haemaker wrote:RAM! That was it. Ran 2GB, dropped it to 512MB, and bam, works like a charm. Thanks!
