Cannot get Windows XP Virtual Machine to Boot Up

Post by RothGould »

I'm running an XP virtual machine on an MacBook with Yosemite. It worked fine until yesterday. When I tried to boot up, Windows asked to run scan disk. It found a number of missing files and now it just goes to the Windows XP boot screen and then the virtual machine powers off. I tried to boot from the XP install disk, but it says FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium. System halted. Any suggestions?

Pay attention to what the error message, which is telling you that it can't read the disk you are trying to boot from. What is that disk? The ideal would be an ISO image of the XP setup CD. And make sure that CD boot is enabled in the VM settings, and comes before hd boot.

It might also be worthwhile to run a disk check on the host.

Silly question I know, but do you have a recent backup of this VM?
