new vm - nothing in the 'selection boxes'

Hi. I'm trying to install VirtualBox 4.3.20 under win 7. Actually it installs okay, but when I go to create a VM there is nothing in the 'selection boxes'. I've attached a screen-cap
in hopes that it'll make it clearer. :)

BTW I think my son tried to install VirtualBox on this machine in the past. I uninstalled it & deleted old directories, etc.

Thanks,

Laz

I'm having trouble seeing how this could be a VirtualBox problem. Do dropdown menus work in other applications on this host? I'm thinking there is some problem with the theme - white font with white background used in pulldown menus - though that alone wouldn't explain why there's no text under the highlight bar.

Otherwise the only thing I can think of is a problem with the Qt GUI library, in which case perhaps you should try again to excise the old install, and this time check for "VirtualBox" keys in the registry too.

Thanks for the advice.

After much mucking about it is finally working. I did try a different theme-- no dice. I also deleted a bunch of registry keys w/o any luck.

Finally I ran it in compatibility mode for Vista-- that worked!

Best,

Laz

That shouldn't be necessary. Lot's of people are using VBox under Win7, in fact I'd hazard a guess that it's now the most popular host OS, yet I haven't seen this reported before. Another thing you could try is updating the host graphics drivers.
