Windows 7 VM stopped working

Post by Bullant »

I installed a Win7 Ultimate machine on a OS X Yosemite host so that I can remote to work. It was working fine until for some reason, my Mac rebooted on it's own. Virtual Box came back up showing that the Win 7 machine was running, but I could not get a window with that machine open to show up. I tried rebooting the VM, but nothing was accomplished until I restarted Virtual Box. Now the Windows 7 VM or my other VM (Windows 7 ultimate as well) will not boot up. Help!

What's the exact error message? Also, check your Activity Monitor for any VBox* related processes and kill them. Then restart VirtualBox.

No error message. The Virtual Box Manager is showing machine turned off and the Start button is grayed out. When I go to the settings all options are grayed out as well. I have restarted VirtualBox several times with the same results.

Did you kill all the VBox* and VirtualBox* processes from the Activity Monitor (Applications, Utilities)? Or alternatively restart the computer? Do you have only one VM? If you have more than one, do all of them are greyed out?

I killed the processes and restarted and still the same results. Both my Windows VM machines show the "Start/Show" part grayed out. I have an Android VM that is also powered off but it does let me start it.

Could you post a screenshot so we're on the same page? With a VM selected (not the Android one)? And since you're at it, post the (compressed) VBox.log for your problematic VMs.
