Connection problems with Cassandra

Running VB 4.3.20, Windows 8 on Laptop
Running VB 4.3.15 R95663. Windows 7 Desktop

I've tried on both and am running into the same problem.

I imported the .ova file for casandra and followed the directions here:
http://planetcassandra.org/install-cass ... irtualbox/

Went to File>Preferences>Network: Host-only Networks and chose VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter (I also tried adding a second one and had same issue)

With CassandraVM highlighted, I went to Settings>Network: Adapter 1

Host-only adapter, name VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter. I've tried all the options in Promiscuous mode. I left the checkmark in the cable connected checked as was default.

I get this exact same screen after going through above steps.

The problem is I try to open it this address in the browser and it runs for a long while and then it just times out. I've used IE, Chrome, Opera and Firefox browsers - all same issue.

Any have any idea what is going on with this and how I can connect?

OK, I had some free time and I replicated your setup and your problem. There is one omission in the instructions for setting up Cassandra. They did not tell you to change the host-only adapter. So, go to VirtualBox preferences, Network, Host-only Networks, edit vboxnet0 (with the screwdriver), and under Adapter, change the default 192.168.56.1 to something that is in the 10.0.0.x range, e.g. 10.0.0.254. You should be all set... You might want to notify them about the omission as well.

Now, why it works in their instructions? Chances are that they're already in a 10.0.0.x network setup somehow, but in reality, if your host adapter is not in the same network, there will be no connectivity. As a general advice, for virtual networks I avoid using the "standard" private network ranges, i.e. 192.168.1.x and 10.0.0.x. I usually go for 192.168.77.x and 10.0.119.x (for example).

Thank you very much socrtatis! I had the same problem, and your solution helped make the thing work! :D

Nice. Any chance that anyone could notify the Cassandra people to update their instructions?
