Windows 8 Guest Configuration Difficulty

Hi,
I have installed VB on Ubuntu and I am trying to create a Windows 8 Guest. The Win 8 guest was created from an upgrade of Win XP; however in the process not all drivers were found so I'm having trouble with the following devices: 1) Base System Device, 2) Ethernet Controller and 3) Multi Media Audio Controller. There are flagged in Device Manager as having a problem. I tried installing the Guest Additions, but I'm not sure this worked. Also, the sysem can not find the Internet, which I imagine is the result of the device issues that I mentioned. Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Well, if you upgraded your XP guest VM to Win8, you might have missed a couple of things. You see, if you start a new Win8 guest from scratch the "template" will be different. Here are the differences and some of the things that you could try:
- Change the guest OS to "Windows 8". 32 or 64 bit?
- Enable PAE.
- Increase RAM to at least 1024.
- Increase VRAM to at least 64.
- Enable IO/APIC.
- Change the network cards to "Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop".
- Change the audio to "Intel HD Audio".

Technically you can't directly upgrade Windows XP to Windows 8. It actually does a clean install of Windows 8 so you shouldn't have any missing controllers or drivers. It sounds like something may be wrong with your Windows 8 install. You also would need to have changed the template of the Windows XP guest to Windows 8 before you upgraded.

A Windows 8 guest also requires VT-x, even the 32bit versions.
Rather than extract information piecemeal, it is usually best if right up front you provide:
Minimum information needed for assistance.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses as I got connection to the Internet and resolution of the Ethernet and Multi Media Audio problems. I still have the Base System Device, error where the drivers were not installed. Also, I was not sure how to check on the VRAM setting (the changed the other setttings and they helped....thanks!!).
