Using copy and paste features.

I noticed the newer version of VirtualBox allows for the transfer of copy and paste features through both OS X and Windows. I do have these features enabled from the toolbar top screen. Nonetheless, I find that they do not work.

I am using the most current version of VirtualBox as well as the most current version of OS X, Yosemite.

Please advise.

Copy and Paste has been around for awhile. However, it can only be used to transfer text and picture clippings, not files.

Copy and paste works only if the Guest Additions are installed in the guest. Remember, only for text (and I do believe images, but haven't tried it).

Maybe it's application dependent? I'm finding that it's not working for me. I am only using text and I do have the guest additions installed.

It shouldn't be. Could you give an example of what you are trying to copy and paste?

I am actually using Dragon dictate, Mac-based, to dictate into a Windows driven piece of medical software application which contains a large note field into which I am trying to paste text from Dragon voice dictation. As this didn't work, I tried alternatively to copy the text from the Dragon Dictate Mac-based application into a notepad on the desktop of my Windows virtual machine which also didn't work.

Well, it is possible that Dragon Dictate only allows copying and pasting inside the app but I don't know that. What you can try is copying some text from TextEdit on your Mac into NotePad and see if that works. Or some text from your browser. If you can copy and paste in some apps then the clipboard is working and it is an application issue.

btw, if you can't copy and paste any text between host and guest from any apps then it seems like the guest additions weren't installed. Can you attach your vbox.log file (compressed) for your Windows guest?
