Can you run a guest over the network?

Post by LeadMagnet »

I have a scenario where several team members need to run the same VM for short periods of time.

For example: Team Member #1 uses "Uber Special VM" for an hour, then shuts it down. Team Member #2 then fires it up, works for an hour, then shuts it down, and so on, and so on.

What I would like to do is place the VDI in a network shared folder. Then configure their local VB installs to use that drive.

No simultaneous usage. Machine is started and stopped each time. Only one user account in the VM.

Is this possible?

Right now, the VM is on a machine that everyone RDP's into. Uses the VM, then logs off. Would like to free up the machine! :P

Sure it's possible. Just register (i.e. Add) the .vbox from the network location that it resides. I'm not sure what the performance is going to be like and whether your one-at-a-time scheme will work though...
