I am having a problem as well. Ive increased the virtual disk size when i run vm it doesnt seem increased. What am I supposed to do. Please help

That question is covered in the FAQ. I suggest that you read it (carefully). Howto: Resize a Virtual Disk.

Without knowing what your guest OS is, no I cannot be much more precise.

VirtualBox is effectively a hardware simulator. If you follow step 1 of the FAQ then the hardware of your drive will be replaced with hardware that has a higher capacity. On a physical PC this is equivalent to replacing your hard disk and then "restoring" a disk image onto it.

However, the guest OS image is already installed, it has already previously been told what portion of the the drive (partition) it is supposed to use, and while it will "see" the additional space, it will not automatically use that space. Therefore you need a tool which extends the guest-OS-managed partition to "cover" the additional space. Such a tool is called a partition manager. It must be specific to the guest OS and filesystem installed, which is why this can't be done by VirtualBox. Some guest OS's come bundled with a standard partition manager tool (e.g. Win7 has "DiskPart"), in other cases you can download and boot the VM using the GParted live CD ISO as suggested in step 2. GParted is easy to use and supports most common guest filesystems.

And I hope you noted that part of the FAQ which told you that none of this will work if your VM uses snapshots, or uses a virtual container format other than dynamic VDI or dynamic VHD.

just to clarify things hopefully. You download the GParted .iso to your host. You then attach it to your guest in the storage settings in the CD/DVD controller. You then start the guest, gparted will start. Hopefully it is self-explanatory from there.

If you are using a Windows 7 or above you don't need gparted at all. You can just use the disk management feature while in the guest.

You should make a backup of the .vdi file before you do anything in case something goes wrong.
