show memory over the limit

Hi all,
I am using ubuntu and redhat on my windows 7 host and I configured 2GB memory for each virtual machine and they run seperately. But I need to show my memory at least 8GB to be able install a software. Otherwise installation is not possible. I have only 4GB on my pc. Is that possible ?
After the installation I can go back to 2GB, I just need to show it 8GB during the installation phase.
I searched about this but couldn't find something useful yet.
Thanks

You can't install/run software that requires 8GB on a machine with only 4GB.

Sounds like you want to fake the 8GB setting just for the install? I don't think you can do that.
Alternatively, if your program will run under 2GB memory after it's installed, you could try copying your guest folder to a friend's PC that can give 8GB to the guest, do the install, then move the guest folder back to your host. It might work...

yes, just for the install.
Thanks. That might be a solution but it is hard to find a pc with that memory.
I searched about ReadyBoost but it seems it can't be used for virtual machines.

Just curious, what software requires 8GB to install but will run in 2GB?

My thoughts exactly. I mean if the developers require 8GB of RAM, it's not just for the heck of it, they must have a reason, so running the program in a 2GB environment is either going to suck or not work at all...

I'm not aware of any application or OS that requires 8GB of RAM to install or run. I wonder if the OP has the disk space required and RAM mixed up.

The fact that Haldag mentions ReadyBoost in a RAM context certainly supports that.
@Haldag. Please post a VM log file: Right click the VM in the GUI. Select "Show Log". Save "VBox.log" (
only) to a file. Zip that file and attach the zip to a message here.
