Running Mobile Partner in Guest win xp Host is linuxmint-17

Post by ashfaq »

I had installed virtualbox 4.3.18 with extensions etc on host linuxmint-17 Cinnamon 64bit. I had managed to install windows xp 32bit as guest. Its working fine, and getting connected to internet through NAT. In order to check the usage of Data, I need to login to my installed window7 on another drive, where Huwavie software Mobile partner shows up,for ussd etc. My point is I want to connect my 3g Data Dongle to guest directly instead through host with NAT so that I will be able to run 'Mobile Partner' in guest xp, if this is possible I will get rid of installed windows 7, and use the space for storage.
Please help me with how to go about making this possible. I am able to see the usb dongle in Guest xp but how do I connect it.directly to Guest and get connected. I mean what should be the network mode, like NAT Bridged, Please help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Ashfaq.

If you're able to see the dongle in the XP guest then it should be showing up as another network connection in the guest - note that you should have to install the drivers for the dongle in the guest. At that point you would not have to set Virtualbox to do anything different. Your guest should have two network connections, one from Virtualbox if it is still set up, and one from the dongle.

The dongle is visible as I had it enabled in the usb section, but the driver doesn't get installed. Although it searches for drivers, with the display of new hardware, but when pointed to mobile partner folder, the driver is not found to the virtual Guest. I even installed the Mobile Partner Software in the Guest, directly but this doesn't find the dongle! Are There any settings I had to change, for network, please let me know about That! Thanks.

Does Huwavie actually mean Huawei?

If so then this thread might offer some clues, though you have a different host.
