Network on ubuntu guest fails after restart

Post by sam452 »

I have successfully gotten a network connection with the help of the docs here in virtualbox's guest inside Windows 8.1 running on my macbook pro retina. My vb version is 4.3.18. I have earlier set up my /etc/network/interfaces as follows:

Code: Select all

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
My guest network was set to Bridged and worked until today after I did a restart. Some Windows updates happened as well.

The only network option that works is NAT Netword. It gives a different class of addy which I'd rather not have but at least I can connect to the internet. How can I get my Bridged option to work and stay that way after a restart?

Under NAT and Bridged there is NO connection to even the Windows host addy. Only ping for localhost works as you expect.

Here is the output of my ifconfig:

Code: Select all

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 08:00:27:4c:2a:43
          inet6 addr: fe80::a00:27ff:fe4c:2a43/64 Scope:Link

          TX packets:4426 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:2374453 (2.3 MB)  TX bytes:553616 (553.6 KB)

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:65536  Metric:1
          RX packets:1940 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1940 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:185834 (185.8 KB)  TX bytes:185834 (185.8 KB)
I researching I saw some point to a different "wired" adapter, eth2. As you can see I have not changed the naming of these interfaces. What can I provide to help solve this issue? thx, sam
