windows vista guest does not detect usb device

I am running windows 8.1 as host and windows vista as guest. I am having problems detecting my renasas embedded board. The usb device is not detected all other usb devices are detected. The host detects an unrecognized usb device. The usb device requires a device driver that is not compatible with win 8.1. The driver is compatible with win vista but I cant get win vista guest to detect usb device to get hardware wizard to install driver. The purpose of creating guest is to connect with board via usb. I did install the extensions. I tried creating filter but board is not detected.

The board might be fussy about timing, in which case there's no way to run it in a VM. If as you say "all other USB devices are detected" then clearly that one device has unusual needs.
