OSX 10.10 Yosemite

Post by DaniOSX »

Hey guys

I am new in the VirtualBox world and faced the first problems.

System: iMac Intel Based (end 2009) Core i7, OSX 10.10 Yosemite German

What I have done: I´ve donloaded VirtualBox-4.3.18-96516-OSX, installed it.

Problems: If I try to open VirtualBox following Error Message appears:

Das COM-Objekt für VirtualBox konnte nicht erzeugt werden.
Die Anwendung wird nun beendet.

Error in /Users/MYNAME/Library/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml (line 3) -- Cannot handle settings version '1.2-macosx'.
/Users/vbox/tinderbox/4.3-mac-rel/src/VBox/Main/src-server/VirtualBoxImpl.cpp[534] (nsresult VirtualBox::init()).
Fehlercode:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Komponente:
VirtualBox
Interface:
IVirtualBox {fafa4e17-1ee2-4905-a10e-fe7c18bf5554}

Has anybody an idea what I can do that I am able to run VirtualBox?

Thank you

Cheers

The first problem is VirtualBox does not create a /vbox folder anywhere much less in /Users so how this got there…
/Users/vbox/tinderbox/4.3-mac-rel/src/VBox/Main/src-server/VirtualBoxImpl.cpp[534] (nsresult VirtualBox::init()).
is a mystery.

this is the beginning of a normal VirtualBox.xml file…

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!--
** DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE.
** If you make changes to this file while any VirtualBox related application
** is running, your changes will be overwritten later, without taking effect.
** Use VBoxManage or the VirtualBox Manager GUI to make changes.
-->
<VirtualBox xmlns="http://www.innotek.de/VirtualBox-settings" version="1.12-macosx">
  <Global>
    <ExtraData>
      <ExtraDataItem name="GUI/DetailsPageBoxes" value="general,preview,system,display,storage,audio,network,usb,sharedFolders,description"/>
How did you install VirtualBox?

May the problem comes from the German OS language?

I downloaded from VirtualBox Homepage the Virtual platform packages:
VirtualBox 4.3.18 for OS X hosts x86/amd64

VirtualBox-4.3.18-96516-OSX.dmg

After downloading I opened DMG, then installed VirtualBox.pkg for all Users on my Computer (only this I could choose).
Then I had to enter my credentials, and then installer ran.

Few seconds later (20-30, did´t measure exactly) the installation was done.

Then I try to open VirtualBox.
Rest of the story you know already =)

I don't think it has anything to do with the German language. :)

Did you check the .dmg file to make sure the checksum was correct before you tried to install it?

There is an application called Tinderbox. Do you happen to have it installed and was it running when you tried installing VirtualBox?

ok.

Normally if the checksum is not correct OS X will not unpack dmg file and faces an error.

I checked, you´re right, path as in error message does not exist..

Strange..

Another test:

I downloaded Version 4.3.16 but same error:

Das COM-Objekt für VirtualBox konnte nicht erzeugt werden.
Die Anwendung wird nun beendet.

Did you see my question about Tinderbox?

If it was an access problem it wouldn't explain the path error. But you can always run Disk Utility and repair permissions and see if that helps.

Tinderbox is a temp location where VBox does its thing. Usually hidden to the user and only seen when there is an issue. The COM server failure is common and it means that the COM server is not starting. Usually a re-install fixes this unless there is a conflict with other programs.

What Perry is saying is there may be a program you are running that is interfering with the VirtualBox installation. Are you running any Anti-Virus programs?

I have to go for a bit but one thing you can try is installing VirtualBox while your Mac is in safe mode. Here is how to boot into safe mode.
