Symantec crashes during install and after reboot / reset the OS is unable to boot up at all, has anyone had any such experience/solution ?
Host is Ubuntu 8.04
Guest 1 Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Guest additions installed
Guest 2 Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 2 - Guest additions installed
I have attempted a complete Symantec package and a anti-virus only package, both have the same affect.
Symantec Endpoint Protection
I have attempted a clean installation of WinXP with SP2 and no Guest additions, the problem persists:
Errors are as follows:
SMC.exe caused an application fault...
SgHIRes.dll could not be found
After that the windows installation is pretty much drestroyed, I havent spent any time attempting to recover the installation as yet.

Norton sucks anyway, why do you want to use it?
Anyway, what exactly are you trying? Running norton inside VB? Next to VB on your Host? Be more specific.

NIS 2009 is quite cool and a lot faster than the previous versions
I am using Windows XP Pro 32 bit as the host and the guest OS is Windows XP Home Edition 32 bit. Trying to run NIS 2009 in the guest. I am pretty sure that it is VB 2.0.2 that has broken something cause it was working fine with 1.6.6. Going to move back to 1.6.6 tomorrow and see if it sorts out the problems...

Be sure to read the note in the 1.6.6 announcement about the downgrade.

Hi
I can confirm that it is Virtualbox 2.x that is breaking NIS 2009. Works fine with 1.6.6 and does not install at all (the window closes with no error message) in 2.0.0 and 2.0.2. I even tried running the 2.0.2 additions inside of a VM running 1.6.6 in case it was just additions but NIS works on 1.6.6 and does not with 2. Sigh.
