Hi all,
I am running windows 8 on a virtual box Mac OSX host. I have an FTDI serial port that I can successfully open but not send or receive anything.
I have tested the device on another machine running windows xp and it works fine.
There are never any warnings and the port always opens successfully. I have searched for similar problems or solutions but found nothing
Can anyone help
Appreciated

Re: Virtual serial port not receiving anything
To be clear, this is a USB-RS232 adapter, right?
Re: Virtual serial port not receiving anything
Thats right - but it is actually a FTDI chip on a custom piece of hardware but that shouldn't make a difference

Re: Virtual serial port not receiving anything
Your first post didn't mention USB at all, it relied on people knowing what FTDI is. So having established that, you now need to be clear whether the guest is accessing the port as a host serial port or as a USB device.

Re: Virtual serial port not receiving anything
Does it have a valid USB vendor and product id?
Re: Virtual serial port not receiving anything
Sorry about that - I had meant to write virtual serial port
What I did was install the virtual com port drivers from the FTDI web site and made sure the device is ticked under devices->USB
I also have usb 2.0 EHCI controller ticked in the virtual machine settings
I can see the port in device manager and the drivers are installed and the device appears to be acting normal apart from nothing is received from the device
Just to be clear, it is a piece of hardware I am working on that has virtual serial / serial to USB built into it (hence the bad explanation at the beginning)
