I migrated from Parallels since it was beginning to be too costly to update year after year...
I use a Mac, and my Parallels 7 does not support Mavericks/Yosemite.
I noticed when installing VirtualBox that the whole 3D acceleration enabling thing was a bit complicated, including restarting in safe mode, etc..
I think I finally managed to finish the process. But the thing is, I read in the manual that VirtualBox experimentally supports DirectX 8 and 9, or something along those lines.
I wanted to run a program (a game, Rise of Nations HD), and it requires DirectX 10.
I wouldn't be surprised if VirtualBox didn't support DirectX 11, but 10... It's been 7 years I think since it came out.
Parallels supports DirectX since Parallels 3...
Any word in this issue? Is there a way DirectX 10 can work here? Are there plans announced to make it compatible?
Thanks

Just a note about installing the guest additions in Windows 7 and above. They do not need to be installed in safe mode.
As far as gaming, VirtualBox even when and if they support DirectX 10 or 11 is not designed as a gaming platform and most likely would suffer from performance issues. Parallels and VMWare for the Mac do directly access hardware which makes them perform slightly better as far as games go. If I wanted to play Windows games I would dual boot using Bootcamp.
