VirtualBox 4.3.18 Crashes when running HP Scanner

HI,
Wondering if there is any fix for Windows 7/8.1 which both crash when attempting to scan documents using HP 5590 Scanjet. The HP 5590 Scanjet is attached to the ubuntu host via USB.

To be sure crashing only applies to VirtualBox and is not a windows issue, installed VMware workstation 10 on same ubuntu 12.04 host, Created new windows 8.1 64 bit guest, installed same HP scanner software on newly created win 8.1 enterprise. Ran scanner without any issue.

Virtualbox version = 4.3.18
host = ubuntu 12.04 x64

Hi there,

this seems to be related.
Since Version 4.3.18 (probably .16 as well and now .20) Windows 7 (guest) crashes while attempting to scan!
Scanner is a Canon Lide 35 using a driver made for Lide 60 on a Win 7 guest. Host System ist Mint 13 (12.04.1).
Last version to work on is VirtualBox 4.3.14.
Application freezes while trying to callibrate scanner.
Hole application quits without any warning.
