VirtualBox 4.3.18 on 64 bit Windows 8.1 (retail) with 4GB memory and a wide open disk space.
The VB install box flashes briefly and then returns error "Installation Failed! Error: Fatal error during installation."
Windows application log show 4 entries for each attempt, averaging between 3 and 8 seconds between failures and each time generates an "installation success or error status: 1603". I've attempted to install various combinations of feature packages, all the way down to *just* the VB application with no success and the same error status.
Found the article regarding known issues with 3rd party drivers and I do not have any listed... not sure they would apply as most of those cause reboot/BSOD, but i checked anyway.
Successfully installed on Win XP and Win 7 using same file... out of ideas. Everything in 'minimum info for assistance' assumes successful installation... what additional information can I provide?
