Parrallells interfering?

Because of the yoesemite update, I was forced to either update my parallels software, or try something else. I have decided to give virtual box a try, but I am having difficulties. when I start Virtualbox, I get the message : FATAL: no bootable medium found. System halted! I have the Windows 7 (2010) disk in my drive, but when I attempt to load it, the icon/link is faded, i.e. inactive. I am wondering if the old parallels software is interfering.
