I have a windows server 2012 as guest on a virtualbox.
I want to boot from dvd to repair the sever 2012 but in the virtual box settings there is no cd/dvd item so I cannot mount the dvd drive.
With all my virtual machines there is no cd/dvd item in settings.
How must I mount the dvd drive so i can boot from it?

All versions of VirtualBox have by default an IDE controller to mount CD/DVDs or .iso files. If they didn't, you couldn't install any guests. So either there is something very wrong with your VirtualBox install or you would have had to have deleted them all.

recently I have added a guest.Maybe there is something wrong with my bios setting and it doesn't first boot of a cd/dvd
But I've already tried to get into the bios of my guest sever 2012 by hitting key F8,F2 or del of my host pc while booting the guest but it doesn't help: I can't get into bios of the guest.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to get to the BIOS of your Windows 2012 server guest? A guest has no BIOS to get into. Your host does, not a guest.

If what you are trying to do is boot your Windows 2012 CD/DVD you just need to attach it in the storage setting of your VirtualBox guest just as you had to do to create a guest in the first place. Or the same place if you used an .iso file to install it.

So I have to go to the storage item of settings and choose for IDE controller and add a cd/dvd drive?
Now at the IDE controller the iso file is there.

remove the .iso and add the cd/dvd. then start the guest.

Hi,

I've tried to add a cd/dvd but virtualbox want to open/indicate a file on the dvd otherwise it doesn't want to add the dvd. I try to open setup.exe but i get the message: VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED.I think it opens only: .dmg,.osi or .cdr
The existing item under ide controller is not "iso" (that was with an other vm) but an item "empty".

Do not browse to a file, select a host drive. See below for an example :-

Hello,
Sorry but I don't get the menu you show in the picture. (I've tried several ways like right clicking on empty: it shows:remove)
When I click on the "add' icon beside ide controller it immediately shows a window to select a file.

Click on the CD icon to the right where it says "IDE Secondary Master"
