How do I get cd/dvd configured to install software from cd

Im running win 8.1 as host and windows vista as guest VM. I would like to install software from cd/dvd drive to guest VM. I went into devices and cd/dvd did not see cd/dvd drive as option, The guest editions is configured and showing under cd/dvd was not sure if I should remove guest editions dont want to lose larger screen.
