Error Running WinPE

Post by CNST »

I'm trying to get VirtualBox to boot off an ISO file that will start WinPE so I can install an image from my MDT2013 server.
I get the normal splash screen but that screen just hangs there then finally crashes.
Attached is the error message I'm getting.

thanks for you help.

Please close the VM window (i.e. complete the session) and provide the VM log file as the error dialog tells you: Minimum information needed for assistance.

Your host can't afford to give away 4GB RAM to a VM. I would suggest that 1GB is more than enough for PE. On the other hand I would increase the VRAM to around 48MB. And make sure you don't have Hyper-v running on this host.

p.s. The dialog asked you to provide one log file, it even gave you the exact name to look for: "VBox.log". I'm not sure why you thought that giving me five times as many logs and pictures to look at was a good thing to do. I assume you wouldn't do that if I was billing you for my time. All you need to do is provide one log that is compressed, complete and from a sesson that shows your issue.

Well, that doesn't change the fact that your host still can't afford 4GB. If it won't accept 1GB then try 2GB. Other alternatives are freeing up more host RAM, or adding more RAM to your host.

Another thing you might do is check out BartPE instead. That uses the XP kernel and I know for a fact it will run in much less memory. It will ask you to provide an XP Pro setup CD ISO to base the PE image on. Whether this is useful will depend on what you want PE for.

thanks but I'm using PE to image w7 and above so I don't think the XP PE would work for me.

thanks for your help.
