Upgrade to Yosemite killed VM (Bootcamp)

I've got a Mac with a Windows 7 VM, since updating to Yosemite it now refuses to start the VM. The current error I am getting is
Could not open the medium '/Users/iMac/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 7/win7.vmdk'.
VD: error VERR_ACCESS_DENIED opening image file '/Users/iMac/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 7/win7.vmdk' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).
I've tried several things like delete current saves restarting, re-installed Virtualbox, but no difference. I've checked the permissions and files and all seems ok (No Mac expert though).
What details should I post to try and help solve this, or what should I be looking at?

That error is normally a permissions error. If you ran Repair permissions from Disk Utility it should have fixed the error. Did you try rebooting your Mac? Also, you should use the VirtualBox_Uninstall.tool before you reinstall if you didn't.

Thanks for the help, just run the repair and a reboot, no change. Do you think an uninstall - resintall will make any difference?

Welcome. if you mean reinstalling VirtualBox it might. I do know at least 4 users had some random issues with VB once they installed OSX 10.10. It seemed to fix theirs. I haven't had any issues with VirtualBox and 10.10 and I've been using it since the first developer previews this past June.
There does seem to be some permission problems with 10.10 itself that have nothing to do with VirtualBox. Two that I've experienced.

Well used the uninstall tool, and resinstalled, still the same permission error

very frustrating as I have some windows app's that I simply can't run on my Mac

is this a guest you made yourself? I noticed it's using a .vmdk file instead of the normal .vdi file.
what you could try is right clicking on the folder containing the guest, select get info, unlock it, and where it says "everyone", change the permission to "Read & Write". Then in the drop down gear menu at the bottom, select apply to all. Your user name should be on top and should say "Read and Write" as well.

I've just thought a reason why this maybe causing issues, I believe when I originally set this up I used bootcamp, then set it up to run as a virtual machine. The VMDK
# Disk DescriptorFile
version=1
CID=728bdf01
parentCID=ffffffff
createType="partitionedDevice"
# Extent description
RW 1 FLAT "win7-pt.vmdk" 0
RW 409639 ZERO
RW 847656256 ZERO
RW 1269536 ZERO
RW 888 ZERO
RW 127436800 FLAT "/dev/disk0s4" 0
RW 48 ZERO
# The disk Data Base
#DDB
ddb.virtualHWVersion = "4"
ddb.adapterType="ide"
ddb.geometry.cylinders="16383"
ddb.geometry.heads="16"
ddb.geometry.sectors="63"
ddb.uuid.image="ee1c838b-cac2-493c-8e3a-2edbc723c1e9"
ddb.uuid.parent="00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"
ddb.uuid.modification="cce8c008-308f-458d-a010-6da997926340"
ddb.uuid.parentmodification="00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"
ddb.geometry.biosCylinders="1024"
ddb.geometry.biosHeads="255"
ddb.geometry.biosSectors="63"
So I'm wondering if the upgrade has borked permissions here, and what needs to be done

I've never tried to create a vm from bootcamp so I'm at a loss. perhaps someone else knows. good luck.

Further info, I can boot into it using Bootcamp, so good news... apart from the whole reboot thing. I guess I need to remember how I turned the bootcamp system into a virtual machine and redo that part?

There is always the possibility that 10.10 handles Bootcamp differently so it might require some experimentation.

Any luck? I'm having none setting up Bootcamp to load in Virtual box. Yosemite has been out for a while now. I was hoping someone might have updated the tutorial. I've tried my best.
This is where I'm at.
