Hi all,
I had VirtualBox 4.3.12 running and tried to install 4.3.18 but the installation process hangs at around 90% with the the network disabled and nothing going on anymore. Even cancelling the setup process does not work. I have to reboot to stop the installation and get network running again. So I tried to reinstall 4.3.12 but this also hangs now at the same point.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit running with
McAfee Internet Security:
McAfee Security Center Version 13.6, Build 13.6.1248, AffID 755
McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Version 17.6, Build 17.6.428, Engine Version 2058.0
McAfee Personal Firewall Version 14.6, Build 14.6.435
I attached the driver and installer logs. The installer log was to big so I ZIP compressed it.
It would be nice if somebody knows a solution to my problem.

I have exactly the same problem. Trying to install on a Windows 10(Preview) x64 ASUS laptop.
Cancel the installation after a few hours, that did not happen and actually had to hard reboot the machine, before I could get my internet connection back.
Please advise
Thanks
Bert

Re: VBox 4.3.18 Installation hangs at around 90% on Win7 64x
Hi,
I found two other posts that describe a very similar behavior for older versions of Virtual Box:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=63611&p=298985
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=57482&p=266836
I have the impression it has to do with the network driver installation not finishing.
But I'm not sure what has changed on my system since I installed 4.3.12 successfully.
Regards,
Johnny

Re: VBox 4.3.18 Installation hangs at around 90% on Win7 64x
Hi all,
Finally I figured out how to install VirtualBox 4.3.18 on my PC without getting stuck. I'm sharing my experience and the steps I have taken to solve my problem. Maybe this can help other users in a similar situation.
As a first step I tried to install VirtualBox 4.3.18 on my laptop. This laptop was running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with the same Antivirus and Firewall version as my PC. VirtualBox 4.3.6 was already installed on this laptop. The update to 4.3.18 went through without any issues. That confirmed to me that my Antivirus and Firewall suite was not causing this problem.
Heading back to my PC I checked out the Network Adapter section in the Device Manager (Control Panel -> System and Security -> System -> Device Manager), then I suspected my problem having to do with the network driver installation. There I had two entries the "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter" and my chipset driver, in my case the "Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection" for my Asus P8Z77-V Pro motherboard. I checked the driver version for both drivers with 4.3.18 for the VirtualBox and 17.3 for the Intel. Next I checked the Asus website to see if there is a newer driver version for the Intel chipset but 17.3 was the latest Asus provided. But on the Intel website I found a newer version 19.5 for this chipset.
Before I was trying to install this new driver I wanted to get rid of the VirtualBox network driver. A right click on it and hitting Uninstall should do it, but again I got the already familiar symptom with the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on my network symbol in the task bar and no way to get my network connection back. After waiting some time and a reboot the VirtualBox driver was gone.
Now I was ready to install the new Intel driver. Which started promising but hang up as the VirtualBox installation with the network connection gone and the installation not finishing. This time there was not even a cancel button. Another reboot was due after some more waiting.
Back in the system I thought: Let's see what happens when I uninstall the old Intel driver first? So I went back in the Device Manger and uninstalled the Intel driver without problems. Now the network symbol in the task bar showed a red X on top of it. At this point I run the Intel driver installation version 19.5 again and it finished successfully.
Ok, now I was ready to give the VirtualBox installation another try. And as you can already guess, this time it finished without any hiccups.
